Faq´s

What do I need to do prior to my Sleep Study or my PFT?

You will be given specific instructions prior to your scheduled test date.

For Sleep Study, avoid caffeine or alcohol for at least 24 hours before your study. This will ensure you are able to fall asleep and stay asleep for the night. Second, avoid any napping during the day. Napping will interrupt your normal rhythms and potentially impact your nightly sleeping.

For PFT:
No bronchodilator medication for four hours.
No smoking for four hours before the test.
No heavy meals.
Do not wear any tight clothing.

How long are the test?

The home sleep study is a one-night test that requires at least a minimum of four hours of sleep. The complete pulmonary function test takes around one and a half hours.

When do I get my results?

For a home sleep study, your results will be available within a max of 72 hours. The sooner you bring the record box, the sooner the DR. will be able to interpret your study.

PFT studies are available as soon as 12 hours after the test.

Do I have to fast before the test?

Have your evening meal prior to showing up for your study. Try and avoid eating or drinking anything with caffeine a few hours before your study. If possible, avoid caffeine after your lunch.

For the PFT study, you can eat and drink before the test, but we recommend you don’t eat a heavy meal or exercise vigorously before your appointment. Eating a heavy meal may result in abdominal distention and will affect your studies.

Are these tests painful?

There is nothing to worry about it. Both tests are non-invasive and do not require blood collection.

Why us?

Would you trust a plumber to do your electrical work?

Even thou many healthcare workers have an idea of basic spirometry, only Registered Respiratory Therapists know exactly what patterns of breathing to follow for accurate testing. We are Sleep Order Specialists focusing on the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

The home sleep study is done in the comfort of your home

This is a way to test for sleep apnea at home without having to spend a night in a sleep lab. Let’s face it! It is very uncomfortable to sleep in a place you are not familiar with, with no privacy, and with someone observing you throughout the night.

Are there other labs with similar services regulated and certified?

Here, in R.J.M. Diagnostics, we are CLIA and CMS certified. Our technical and diagnostic services are excellent and the results are fast and very accurate. They will help tremendously with the type of treatment you might get from your physician.

We care for our patients

With a wide range of patient experience, from pediatrics to adults, all our respiratory therapists have the patience and love that our population needs.
